Karachi has been ranked as the second riskiest city for tourists, with a rating of 93.12 out of 100, according to a report by Forbes Adviser.
Forbes Advisor has ranked Karachi as the second most dangerous city for tourists in its 2024 list, following Caracas, Venezuela.
The study evaluated 60 global destinations based on seven major risk factors: crime, personal safety, health, infrastructure, natural disasters, and digital security.
Karachi received a safety score of 93.12, just behind Caracas, which scored 100. Yangon, Myanmar, ranked third with a score of 91.67.
The list also includes Lagos, Nigeria, Manila, Philippines, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Bogota, Colombia, Cairo, Egypt, Mexico City, Mexico, and Quito, Ecuador.
The ranking attributed Karachi’s high-risk status to significant personal security risks, including crime, violence, terrorist threats, natural disasters, and economic vulnerabilities. The city received a level 3 (reconsider travel) travel safety rating from the US State Department.
Karachi was also noted for having the fourth-highest infrastructure security risk, reflecting concerns about the availability and quality of its infrastructure.
To determine the most and least risky cities for tourists, Forbes Adviser compared 60 international cities across seven key metrics. Karachi has frequently appeared on lists of “unlivable” cities, being named among the least safe cities in the world by the Economist Intelligence Unit in 2017. The Economist Group’s research and analysis division also ranked Karachi among the top five “least livable” urban centers globally.
In contrast, Singapore ranked first as the safest city with a score of 0, followed by Japan’s Tokyo with a score of 10.72, and Canada’s Toronto with a score of 13.6.
