Key Players Set to Leave PSL Franchises Amidst Retention Decisions

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finalized the retention list for the 11th HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL), allowing franchises to retain only four players from the previous season— one each from the Platinum, Diamond, Gold, and Silver categories. This change in rules is aimed at giving new teams a fair chance to acquire top talents.

Islamabad United must release Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, Salman Ali Agha, Mohammad Nawaz, and Imad Wasim if they want to retain Shadab Khan. Lahore Qalandars will be forced to let go of Fakhar Zaman and Haris Rauf while keeping captain Shaheen Shah Afridi. Peshawar Zalmi faces a tough choice between Babar Azam or Saim Ayub.

Hyderabad and Sialkot, two new teams in the 11th season, will have fewer opportunities to secure top players as they are not allowed the same flexibility for player retention as established franchises. The PCB has made these changes to ensure a fair playing field for all teams.

Some initial objections from franchises were withdrawn due to the rigid rules imposed by the PCB. Each team is now left with specific slots for Platinum, Diamond, Gold, and Emerging category players. Here’s a breakdown of each team’s retention list:
