On Wednesday, King Charles III extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa this October. The invitation was conveyed during a phone call from the King to the prime minister.
Accepting the invitation, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized that the CHOGM in Samoa would be a significant milestone as it will be the first summit chaired by King Charles III since he assumed the role of Head of the Commonwealth, according to a statement from the PM’s Office.
Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to the Commonwealth and the principles enshrined in its Charter. He highlighted the summit’s importance in enhancing cooperation within the Commonwealth on key issues, including sustainable development, strengthening democratic institutions, and empowering youth.
The prime minister also noted King Charles’ deep commitment to environmental causes and expressed his eagerness to engage in discussions on climate change, an issue of particular relevance to Pakistan due to its vulnerability to climate-related impacts.
