Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China’s Lingzhi Equipment Group to foster technical collaboration and adopt advanced water management technologies.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, who highlighted the importance of modern, sustainable, and environmentally friendly water and sewage systems for a city of Karachi’s size.
According to KW&SC officials, the agreement focuses on cooperation in sewage treatment and reclaimed water projects, aimed at improving both environmental outcomes and sustainable water use. A detailed feasibility study will be conducted for a sewage treatment and reclaimed water project at Pumping Station No. 2, covering technical, financial, and operational viability, including project design, selection of modern technology, and overall cost assessment.
Mayor Wahab emphasized that international collaboration would create new opportunities for upgrading the city’s infrastructure and delivering better, more efficient services to residents. The MoU also stipulates that any amendments must be made in writing and agreed upon by both parties, and the agreement cannot be transferred to a third party without prior consent.
KW&SC’s CEO Ahmed Ali Siddiqui and COO Asadullah Khan described the MoU as a landmark step towards modernizing Karachi’s water and sewage management systems, promising sustainable and eco-friendly services for the city’s future.
