The City Traffic Police in Lahore has unveiled a meticulous plan for ensuring smooth vehicular flow during Ramazan. Over 2,000 officers and wardens have been deployed across the city to uphold traffic discipline in preparation for the holy month of fasting.
Addressing a meeting with CTO Dr Athar Waheed, he emphasized that these personnel would remain on duty round the clock throughout Ramazan. To cope with heightened vehicular demand during peak hours like before Iftar and Taraweeh times, special squads will be activated to manage congestion efficiently.
To facilitate residents, traffic wardens will be stationed at 23 Sahulat Bazaars, five cattle markets, and 22 dastarkhwans scattered throughout the provincial capital. Divisional and circle officers are urged to supervise during Iftar and Taraweeh timings to minimize traffic pressure.
Dr Athar stressed the importance of strict enforcement in Ramazan bazaars and busy commercial areas like dastarkhwans, warning that any violations would not be tolerated. To address parking issues, more than 200 wardens from the Traffic Response Unit will remain on duty alongside 34 forklifts and five breakdown vehicles to clear illegally parked vehicles.
Additional support will include senior officers such as SPs and DSPs who will join traffic wardens at various intersections to bolster morale during Ramadan. Dr Athar also announced that Iftar will be provided to traffic wardens stationed at their duty points, funded by the city administration.
The comprehensive plan aims to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow and prevent bottlenecks on major roads and in commercial areas. Dr Athar highlighted the need for citizen cooperation and urged patience particularly during Ramadan’s fasting hours.
