Law Minister Allays Imran Khan’s Vision Concerns

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar addressed concerns over Imran Khan’s sight issue on Monday, stating that there was “nothing to worry about” regarding the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaan (PTI) founder’s condition. This statement came shortly after the Supreme Court (SC) had been informed that Imran only retained 15 percent vision in his right eye.

A team of five doctors examined him at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where Imran is incarcerated, on Sunday. They conducted a thorough eye examination and took blood samples to check his blood pressure. Despite the PTI’s rejection of this check-up without their family and personal physicians present, the minister explained that the SC had ordered an additional medical examination.

Tarar clarified these developments at the Bar Association Ferozewala in Shahdara on Monday, stating that a report detailing Imran’s health situation was submitted to the court. He had previously discussed the matter with Attorney General for Pakistan (AGP) Mansoor Usman Awan and other relevant individuals before addressing the bar association.

Tarar continued: “Thanks to God, the examination conducted by the Supreme Court again confirmed that there is no such issue as 35 or 25 percent vision loss. If he uses glasses, one eye is approximately 70 percent fine, while the other eye has perfect sight of 6/6.”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, having a 6/6 vision—or 20/20 in human terms—means seeing clearly and sharply.

Earlier this month, Imran underwent medical treatment at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad on January 24. This news was confirmed days later when there seemed to be confusion among the family about his condition.

Advocate Salman Safdar, appointed as amicus curiae by the SC, met with Imran at Adiala Jail on February 10 and submitted a seven-page report last week. In Safdar’s report, he quoted Imran as stating that despite treatment (including an injection), he currently retains only 15 percent vision in his right eye.

Imran also informed Safdar that until October 2025, both of his eyes had perfect 6/6 vision. More details will be provided soon.
