Lawmakers Demand Immediate Medical Care for Imran Khan

Opposition lawmakers from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Tehreek Tahafuz-e-Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP) continued their sit-in for a second day at Islamabad’s Parliament House on Saturday, demanding immediate medical treatment for PTI founder Imran Khan.

The protest began after Friday prayers, following disclosures in the Supreme Court of Pakistan that Khan’s right eye had only 15 percent vision remaining. Security was tightly sealed at both locations, with heavy police deployment and internal gates restricted, effectively turning Parliament House into a makeshift detention facility overnight.

Protest leaders include TTAP Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai alongside PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, former National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, and other lawmakers. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi is also participating at KP House with provincial legislators.

The sit-in demands that Imran Khan be transferred to Shifa International Hospital for treatment and granted access to independent medical care. Senate opposition leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas highlighted Parliament’s transformation into a detention facility, stating: “We have been inside Parliament since yesterday, wanting to leave but all gates were closed.” He added that protesters are unarmed and standing with only their ethics and the strength of truth.

“We are not prisoners,” he said. “Like other prisoners, Khan has legal rights. Ninety percent of Pakistanis at home and abroad care about his health.”

PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja accused Parliament House of being turned into a jail, demanding its release with allegations that the state is “terrified” by street protests. PTI Central Information Secretary Shaikh Waqas Akram reported on day two: “We remained inside Parliament all night and are exhausted from hunger,” he said.

Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar stated that Imran Khan’s eye treatment continues, and additional examinations would be conducted at a specialized medical institution by ophthalmology experts. He called for restraint, urging the public to avoid speculation, unfounded reports, and attempts to politicize the issue.

The sit-in at Parliament House remains in place, with opposition parties insisting on immediate medical intervention and greater transparency in Khan’s treatment. Authorities affirmed that security arrangements would continue, while political leaders indicated that the protest will persist until their demands are met.
