Lebanon PM warns against country involvement in conflicts

Lebanon’s Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has underscored the country’s resolve by warning against any attempts to drag Lebanon into conflicts that could jeopardize its security and unity. His comments come as serious regional developments have escalated tensions.

Salam, emphasizing “serious developments” in the region, called upon all Lebanese to act with wisdom and patriotism, prioritizing the nation’s interests above all else. This message comes at a sensitive time, given Hezbollah’s ongoing conflicts with Israel since its foundation by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards in 1982.

Recent reports indicate that Israel has warned Lebanon against any involvement if Hezbollah were to get entangled in a potential U.S.-Iran conflict. Salam’s statement reiterated his stance: “We will not accept anyone dragging the country into adventures threatening its security and unity.”

In 2024, Israel dealt a significant blow to Hezbollah with a war that killed its leader Hassan Nasrallah along with thousands of fighters and devastated much of its arsenal.

Salam’s cautionary words reflect Lebanon’s precarious position amidst regional dynamics. The Prime Minister’s message serves as both a warning to potential adversaries and an appeal for unity among his countrymen in the face of heightened geopolitical challenges.
