Sindh’s energy landscape has received a significant boost with the announcement of a major gas and condensate discovery at the Pateji-X1 exploration well, located in the Shah Bandar Block, District Sujawal. The well has yielded 11.7 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and 198 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate, a promising result that is expected to bolster the country’s energy resources.

“Well to deliver 11.7 mn MMSCFD gas, 198 BPD condensate per day”

Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, Sindh’s Minister for Planning, Development, and Energy, revealed that the Sindh Energy Holding Company (SEHCL) holds a 2.5 percent working interest in the Shah Bandar Block.

The operator of the well, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), holds the majority stake of 63 percent, while Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) and Government Holdings (Pvt) Limited (GHPL) hold 32 percent and 2.5 percent working interests, respectively.

The Pateji-X1 well was spudded on October 11, 2024, and drilled to a depth of 2,475 meters to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Upper Sands in the Lower Goru Formation. Testing of the well has confirmed promising results, with a wellhead flowing pressure (WHFP) of 2,578 PSI and a choke size of 32/64 inches.

Shah emphasized the importance of this discovery in reinforcing the hydrocarbon potential of Sindh’s Shah Bandar Block, signaling a step forward in strengthening Pakistan’s energy sector. The discovery comes at a crucial time as the country continues to explore avenues for enhancing its domestic energy production.

Further exploration and development activities are expected to follow, as industry stakeholders look to tap into the block’s full potential.
