Mark Fuhrman, former LAPD Detective, Dies at 74

Fuhrman passed away in his home in Kootenai County, Idaho, where he had been living since retiring from the LAPD. His family confirmed his death on May 18.

The detective died after a prolonged battle with throat cancer.

Fuhrman was notorious for lying during testimony in the OJ Simpson murder trial over 30 years ago.

He began his career in the U.S. Marine Corps, eventually becoming a Sergeant before joining the LAPD.

As one of the first detectives to arrive at the crime scene, Fuhrman found bloody gloves at O.J. Simpson’s property.

This made him the center of controversy when the defense accused him of planting evidence and pursuing a racial agenda.

Fuhrman was also accused of exhibiting racial discrimination against minority communities, which he denied.

His credibility was systematically dismantled during the trial, with his testimony proving false when tapes were produced showing him using racial slurs in recorded interviews.

He was charged with perjury in 1996, damaging the reputation of a law enforcement institution marked by systemic racism and police misconduct within the LAPD.

Following the trial, Fuhrman retired from the LAPD and moved to Idaho. He worked as a television and radio commentator and true-crime author.

The OJ Simpson murder case, also known as the “trial of the century,” saw O.J. Simpson accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman on June 12, 1994. The criminal proceedings continued for eight months before a not guilty verdict was delivered on October 3, 1995.
