In a bid to ease the plight of potato farmers across Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has penned a letter directly to Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Highlighting the economic challenges faced by these hardworking individuals, she called for urgent and comprehensive export reforms.
Maryam Nawaz emphasized the need to expedite exports through the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) and requested the removal of all export barriers. To further bolster their earnings, she suggested a 25% special reduction in freight costs along with procedural simplifications to streamline shipping processes.
In her letter, Nawaz underscored the significance of gaining access to major international markets such as the European Union, Africa, and the United States. She also proposed additional measures aimed at fostering agricultural exports, recognizing their vital role in boosting foreign exchange earnings and revitalizing the sector’s confidence.
The Chief Minister argued that these reforms would not only alleviate financial hardships for potato farmers but would also contribute significantly to Pakistan’s economic growth by enhancing its export portfolio and diversifying its market reach.
