Michael Carrick Sees Manchester United Ready for Aston Villa Clash

Manchester United interim manager Michael Carrick expressed optimism as his team prepares to face Aston Villa in their upcoming Champions League qualifier, after a disappointing loss to Newcastle.

Since taking over from Ruben Amorim in January, Manchester United has been on an impressive run and is currently sitting third in the league table. However, they dropped points for only the first time under Carrick’s leadership, suffering defeat against 10-man Newcastle last week.

The manager addressed his players’ frustration with his words: “I understand that the initial loss feels different, but it was inevitable given how strong our run has been. Most teams encounter similar setbacks at some point.”

Carrick emphasized their progress and commitment since the loss, stating, “It’s been a good week for us; we’ve put ourselves in an advantageous position where there’s much to be played for.” He acknowledged the disappointment of Newcastle’s 90-minute winner but reassured that they had learned from it.

“I have no worries about Paul Scholes’ comments,” Carrick added. “He just made a comment on social media, and while different opinions are valid, I’m not concerned by them.”

The manager also announced his plans for Mason Mount, who has missed the last six league games due to injury. Although he is expected to return, their participation in Sunday’s match remains uncertain.

“I will be able to call upon him,” Carrick said. “He’s an important player and although he’s only been training for a short period of time, his return is good news.”
