ISLAMABAD: The build-up to the PSL Season 11 intensified with a major international signing as England’s Moeen Ali officially joined Karachi Kings. The franchise confirmed he was directly signed on a contract worth Rs64.4 million, adding significant experience and star power to their squad ahead of the new season.

Moeen Munir Ali OBE, a former England vice-captain in limited-overs cricket, represented the national team from 2014 to 2024. In domestic cricket, he has featured for Yorkshire and previously played for Worcestershire and Warwickshire, earning a reputation as a reliable all-rounder with leadership credentials.

The announcement comes as PSL franchises unveiled their retention and release lists, setting the stage for one of the most competitive editions of Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament. Adding further excitement to the mix, Sialkot Stallions have secured Australian batting superstar Steve Smith, sparking anticipation for explosive performances in the upcoming season.

Franchises like Peshawar Zalmi continue to build around their captain Babar Azam, while defending champions Lahore Qalandars retain pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi. Islamabad United, Quetta Gladiators, and Karachi Kings have also locked in key players including Shadab Khan, Abrar Ahmed, and Hassan Ali, respectively.

However, several high-profile names will not feature in PSL 11. The absence of Haris Rauf, Fakhar Zaman, Naseem Shah, Sahibzada Farhan, and Saim Ayub could significantly alter team dynamics, while also opening doors for new talent to rise.

Karachi Kings further strengthened their lineup by retaining Hassan Ali (Platinum), Abbas Afridi (Diamond), Khushdil Shah (Gold), and Saad Baig (Emerging). Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars maintained championship edge with Shaheen Afridi, Abdullah Shafiq, Sikandar Raza, and Muhammad Naeem, while releasing Haris Rauf and Fakhar Zaman.

Islamabad United kept faith in Shadab Khan, Salman Irshad, and Andreas Goss but parted ways with seasoned campaigners like Naseem Shah and Imad Wasim. Quetta Gladiators will rely on Abrar Ahmed, Usman Tariq, Hassan Nawaz, and Hussain, following the release of experienced players such as Mohammad Amir, Faheem Ashraf, and Saud Shakeel.

With franchises finalising their plans, social media and cricket fans are buzzing ahead of the PSL 11 draft. Strategic retentions, blockbuster signings, and surprise releases have already turned the spotlight firmly on the upcoming season. PSL 11 is more than just a cricket tournament; it’s Pakistan’s biggest sporting spectacle, with action beginning long before the first ball is bowled.
