Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) Criticises Sindh Government Over Gul Plaza Fire Inquiry Report

The MQM-P has criticised the Sindh government for allegedly concealing the Gul Plaza fire inquiry report. The party’s spokesperson welcomed a ruling by the Sindh Information Commission, describing it as a victory for the people of Sindh and a setback for what he called a “corrupt feudal system” and bureaucratic collusion.

The interim order was issued on April 28 after Advocate Muhammad Tariq Mansoor filed a complaint under the Right to Information (RTI) law. The office of the law secretary allegedly refused to receive the application, prompting criticism from the information commission.

Justice Agha Faisal-led judicial commission submitted its comprehensive inquiry report – comprising four additional volumes – on April 7, 2026, in the presence of media and public. However, when a request was made for access to the report under RTI law, it was allegedly refused.

The spokesperson termed this move as a violation of Article 19-A of the Constitution, which guarantees citizens’ right to information. He also expressed displeasure over the matter with the commission.

The absence of the report has already affected legal proceedings, with a police charge sheet in a related case returned by a judicial magistrate due to the investigating officer’s failure to provide inquiry findings. The spokesperson alleged that this reflects how far the provincial government is shielding those responsible and obstructing justice.

The Sindh Information Commission has directed the home secretary to present the complete Gul Plaza Judicial Commission report, along with a separate inquiry report by the Karachi commissioner dated January 20, 2026, at the next hearing on July 8. The MQM-P vowed to pursue the matter across all available forums until those responsible are held accountable and justice is delivered to the victims’ families.
