Naqvi, Rehman Discuss Political, Economic, Security Challenges with JI Leader

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi met Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman at JI’s headquarters in Mansoorah on Tuesday. The leaders discussed political, economic, and security situations, with a focus on regional implications of the recent Iran-US rapprochement.

Both described the development as positive for stability and peace. Rehman praised Pakistan’s role in facilitating talks between Tehran and Washington, calling it a significant diplomatic achievement.

Naqvi briefed Rehman on Iran-US negotiations and government initiatives. He credited Pakistan’s leadership for supporting efforts aimed at regional peace, praising Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Khan for their contributions.

The leaders also discussed economic measures to provide relief to the public. Rehman raised concerns about Pakistani nationals stranded in Somalia, urging the use of diplomatic channels for their safe return. The MT Honour 25 was hijacked off Somalia’s southeastern coast on April 21; eleven hostages remain captive after over 50 days.

Negotiations have stalled as talks are being handled by a third party, with pirates insisting on dealing directly with authorized company representatives. Naqvi expressed gratitude that Pakistan’s peace efforts were recognized and acknowledged.
