NDMA Warns 2027 Among Hottest Years on Record, Urges Climate Action

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) expert Syed Muhammad Tayyab Shah has warned that 2027 could be one of the hottest years on record due to rising temperatures. Speaking with a local media outlet, he highlighted the global warming trend and urged for stronger cooperation among all stakeholders in addressing climate change.

Tayyab Shah stated that Pakistan is particularly vulnerable to climate-related threats such as landslides, flash floods, and sudden heavy rainfall events. He emphasized the need for improved coordination between federal and provincial institutions, emergency services, and humanitarian partners to enhance disaster management capabilities.

The NDMA expert also noted that greenhouse gas emissions are significantly contributing to these changes, leading to increased pressure on rivers, accelerated glacier melt, changing weather patterns, and a rise in mountainous hazards. He stressed the importance of urgent action on climate change, warning that delays will only increase risks and strengthen the impact of extreme weather events in the coming years.
