Neil Young Addresses Plagiarized Song Incident

Neil Young’s six-decade career has produced over a thousand songs, showcasing his diverse musical style from defining anthems to experimental tracks.

His discography is marked by both groundbreaking contributions and notable missteps. In the 1960s, artists often covered seminal works of their predecessors to enhance their albums’ track counts.

Young himself covered numerous artists, including Bob Dylan and The Beach Boys, but inadvertently mimicked folk guitarist Bert Jansch’s melody in his original song “Ambulance Blues.”

Reflecting on this oversight, Young expressed regret for unintentionally copying Jansch’s opening melody, which he realized was strikingly similar to that of another one of Jansch’s songs, “The Needle of Death.”
