NEPRA proposes fixed charges up to Rs 1,000 for domestic users

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has proposed the introduction of fixed charges for domestic electricity consumers, set to begin on July 1. This could affect millions of households across the nation.

The proposal, which has been submitted to the federal government for final approval, integrates the fixed charges into the average basic electricity tariff.

The proposed charges are tiered based on monthly consumption:

  • Rs 200 for 301-400 units
  • Rs 400 for 401-500 units
  • Rs 600 for 501-600 units
  • Rs 800 for 601-700 units
  • Rs 1,000 for usage above 700 units

Karachi Endures Severe Heat Amid Widespread Power Outages

Previously, domestic customers were not subject to fixed charges. The final decision on the new tariff structure will be made after the federal government completes its review.
