Today, Governor Kamran Khan Tessori convened the inaugural session of the 16th provincial legislature, where newly-elected members of the Sindh Assembly took oath.
Outgoing Speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani presided over the session, administering the oath to 163 elected MPAs out of 168.
However, the session commenced with a delay amidst tight security measures, with law enforcement detaining 10 workers, including women, from the Qaumi Awami Tehreek who protested outside against alleged election rigging.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, the schedule for electing the speaker and deputy speaker will be announced.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) nominated Sofia Saeed for the speaker’s position and Rashid Khan for deputy speaker, emphasizing collaboration with other parties to address provincial issues.
Meanwhile, the PPP nominated Syed Awais Qadir Shah and Anthony Naveed for speaker and deputy speaker roles respectively, expressing determination to tackle the country’s challenges through cooperation with other parties.
Chief Minister nominee Murad Ali Shah affirmed the PPP’s commitment to resolving issues in collaboration with all stakeholders, highlighting the party’s unexpected victory in the recent elections.
