Nigeria deploys troops after deadly attack in Kwara village

President Bola Tinubu has deployed an army battalion to Kaiama district in the central Kwara state following a deadly assault on Woro village by suspected jihadist fighters. The 170 deaths were recorded as the deadliest this year in the state bordering Niger.

The violence is seen as a potential threat, with security analysts warning that jihadist factions from the north could be moving south towards the Kainji forest and its perceived stronghold. Nigeria’s response to this has been scrutinized following accusations by U.S. President Donald Trump of failing to protect Christians amid Islamist attacks and mass kidnappings.

The attack on Woro village was condemned as “cowardly and barbaric,” with attackers targeting villagers who had resisted attempts at imposing extremist rule in the area. Community members, including Muslims, were commended for their resistance against the militants.

In a separate incident, gunmen killed at least 21 people in northern Katsina state on Tuesday during an attack that involved moving from house to house and shooting victims.
