Nvidia Unveils DLSS 5 at GTC: Enhanced AI for Photorealistic Gaming

Nvidia unveiled DLSS 5 on March 16, 2026, during GTC conference. This version uses generative AI for photorealistic lighting and materials.

Unlike previous versions focusing on speed or sharpness, DLSS 5 can change character appearances and environmental lighting to rival Hollywood VFX.

It will be available for some PC games this fall. Games list not provided.

The announcement sparked controversy online due to AI’s substantial changes without original creators’ input. Environmental lighting could be completely transformed, sometimes making areas look entirely different from the original design.

This feature will be optional in supported PC games, not enabled by default.
