Pakistan Condemns Reported Attack on Russian President Putin’s Residence

Pakistan has condemned reports of an attempted attack on the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, calling it a serious threat to peace, security and stability at a time when diplomatic efforts toward peace are ongoing.

In an official statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan stands in solidarity with President Vladimir Putin, as well as with the government and people of Russia. The statement reaffirmed Pakistan’s consistent opposition to violence in all its forms and to actions that undermine security or disrupt peace.

Islamabad urged restraint and stressed the importance of protecting stability at both regional and global levels, noting that escalation would only complicate ongoing efforts to reduce tensions.

The reaction followed remarks by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who said on Monday that Ukraine had attempted to strike President Putin’s residence in northern Russia, prompting Moscow to reassess its negotiating position.

According to Russian officials, Ukraine launched an overnight drone operation targeting the presidential residence in the Novgorod region. Russia said 91 long-range drones were involved and all were intercepted and destroyed by air defence systems. Lavrov said there were no injuries and no damage to the property.

Lavrov also warned of a response from Moscow, saying that targets for retaliatory action had already been identified by Russia’s armed forces. “Such reckless actions will not go unanswered,” he said, adding that the incident amounted to “state terrorism.”
