Karachi, April 30, 2026 – As the world marked International Dance Day, Spotify data reveals how Pakistan celebrated and one thing stands out: the country moved to the rhythm of bhangra. From wedding season to cricket victories, and from Basant festivities to everyday gatherings, dance continues to be a powerful expression of joy and identity across Pakistan. But increasingly, it’s bhangra that is defining these moments.

Over the past three years, streams of bhangra tracks have surged by more than 270% in Pakistan, cementing its place as the country’s go-to dance genre. The growth isn’t just in volume, it’s in reach. The number of listeners discovering bhangra has increased by nearly 350%, signaling a widening audience for the genre.

This momentum is also reflected in listener behavior. User-generated playlists featuring the word “bhangra” have grown by nearly 120% over the same period, showing how fans are actively curating and celebrating the genre in their own way.

At the center of this cultural movement is Lahore, widely regarded as Pakistan’s cultural capital, now leading as the country’s bhangra hub. The city has generated over 17 million streams of bhangra tracks, followed by Islamabad, Karachi, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi.

Beyond major cities, bhangra’s rise is echoing across the country. Gilgit recorded the highest growth in listenership at 280%, underscoring the genre’s expanding footprint beyond Punjab.

Looking at what’s soundtracking these moments, during peak wedding season (November to February), “Nach Punjaban” by Abrar Ul Haq emerged as the most-streamed Pakistani bhangra track, a reminder of the lasting power of classic anthems.

Pakistan’s listening habits continue to reflect a dynamic blend of tradition and evolution, where legacy sounds meet new energy, and where music is not just heard, but lived. Through personalized experiences, Spotify is enabling listeners to shape these moments in their own way, turning everyday listening into a celebration of culture, movement, and identity.
