Pakistan Nominates Donald Trump for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize

The Government of Pakistan has formally recommended former US President Donald J. Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing his decisive diplomatic intervention during the recent crisis between India and Pakistan.

Islamabad credits Trump’s engagement with both sides for helping to defuse a potentially catastrophic military escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours. According to the Pakistani government, India had engaged in what it described as unlawful military aggression, leading to civilian casualties. In response, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyanum Marsoos, a targeted military campaign it said was intended to re-establish deterrence while minimising harm to non-combatants.

Pakistan’s statement praised Trump’s “strategic foresight and stellar statesmanship” during the crisis, noting that his direct diplomacy secured a ceasefire and prevented wider conflict. The government framed his actions as those of a “genuine peacemaker,” committed to resolving international disputes through dialogue.

Islamabad also highlighted Trump’s longstanding willingness to mediate the dispute over Jammu and Kashmir, describing it as central to regional peace. The government reiterated its stance that lasting stability in South Asia remains dependent on the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions concerning the contested territory.

Officials further pointed to Trump’s broader diplomatic record, expressing hope that his leadership will continue to support peace efforts beyond South Asia, particularly in the Middle East amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Iran.

The nomination, while unlikely to be received without controversy, reflects Pakistan’s alignment with Trump’s approach to foreign policy and its view of his influence on regional stability.
