Tensions have once again escalated along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, with Afghan Taliban forces allegedly opening fire in Torkham and Tirah sectors of Khyber district on Tuesday. Prime Minister’s spokesperson Mosharraf Zaidi confirmed this incident occurred without provocation and responded swiftly with security forces.

In a statement shared across social media platforms, Zaidi emphasized that Pakistan’s defense had effectively neutralized the Taliban aggression. He warned that any further escalation would result in a swift and forceful response to safeguard citizens and uphold territorial sovereignty against external threats.

According to security sources, clashes erupted at three distinct points along the frontier, lasting for nearly an hour. All Pakistani personnel remained safe, while a Taliban check post was reportedly destroyed in the retaliatory action conducted by Pakistani forces. The incident comes amid heightened tensions following a string of terrorist attacks inside Pakistan, including a deadly vehicle-borne suicide bombing that killed 11 soldiers and injured civilians.

Pakistan’s response included intelligence-based precision strikes on seven militant hideouts along the border belt, connected to TTP elements operating from Afghan soil. Inter-Services Public Relations reiterated that Pakistan would continue operations against terrorists “irrespective of location,” stressing the sanctity of Ramazan would not shield those responsible for cross-border attacks.

Relations with Afghanistan remain strained, as Islamabad urges Kabul to dismantle militant sanctuaries and warns severe retaliation if further aggression occurs. As Pakistan maintains its commitment to safeguarding territorial integrity and civilian lives, this latest incident underscores the need for regional cooperation to address these persistent security challenges.
