Islamabad has dispatched its first consignment of humanitarian aid to Malaysia as part of efforts to assist flood victims. A chartered flight carrying 40 tons of relief items, including tents, blankets, quilts, sleeping bags, mats, and life jackets, successfully landed in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday.

The shipment was received by representatives of the Pakistan Embassy in Malaysia and Malaysia’s National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA). This initiative highlights Pakistan’s commitment to supporting Malaysia amid devastating floods affecting nine eastern states.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif had earlier expressed condolences to Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim over the flood-related losses and pledged immediate aid. The ongoing monsoon season has impacted over 137,000 people across 38 districts, with 40,922 families seeking refuge in evacuation centers. The floods have claimed nine lives, and heavy rainfall is expected to persist until February 2025.

The second aid shipment, also weighing 40 tons, is scheduled to depart next week, reinforcing Pakistan’s solidarity with Malaysia during this crisis.

The Government of Pakistan, drawing from its own experiences with natural disasters, stands firm in its resolve to assist Malaysia in its recovery efforts.
