Pakistan-Sri Lanka Joint Exercise “Shake Hands-II” Concludes

The Pakistan-Sri Lanka Joint Exercise “Shake Hands-II,” a two-week long counter-terrorism exercise, concluded at Tarbela on May 7. The drill began on April 27 and involved combat teams from the Pakistan Army’s Special Services Group and Sri Lankan Special Forces.

According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the training scenarios were designed to enhance professional skills in counter-terrorism operations. Held at a key facility in Tarbela, the exercise provided an opportunity for both contingents to refine drills, procedures, and operational techniques under complex security challenges.

Officials noted high standards of professional excellence throughout the exercise, with emphasis on tactical precision, operational coordination, and sharing best practices. The closing ceremony was attended by General Officer Commanding of the Special Services Group, Pakistan Army, and Major General Ajith Abeyawardana from Sri Lanka.

The event underscored the importance placed on bilateral engagement by both sides, serving as a platform for training and strengthening military-to-military relations between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The exercise is part of ongoing joint initiatives aimed at improving interoperability and preparedness against evolving counter-terrorism challenges.
