Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts dust-laden winds and light rainfall in Karachi and surrounding areas over coming days. A new weather system is expected to trigger widespread rain and thunderstorms across Pakistan from June 16 to June 20.

The PMD said a westerly weather system will enter the upper parts of the country, remain active until June 20, and bring moist currents from Arabian Sea into central and upper regions, enhancing rainfall activity.

While main impact is expected in northern and central Pakistan, Karachi could see dust storms and isolated light showers as the weather pattern strengthens. The Met Office warned strong winds and hailstorms could damage vulnerable infrastructure.

Across Sindh, upper districts are expected to receive rain and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds between June 16 and June 20. In Karachi, rainfall is expected to remain light.

The PMD forecast thunderstorms, strong winds and rain in Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms possible in some areas. Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Faisalabad while landslides remain a risk in vulnerable mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

The Met Office advised farmers to plan agricultural activities according to weather conditions and urged travellers and tourists to avoid unnecessary journeys during periods of severe weather. Authorities were directed to remain on alert and take precautionary measures to prevent any untoward incidents during the forecast period.
