Pakistani nationals return home through Balochistan border crossings amid Iran tensions

As tensions escalate in Iran following attacks by the United States and Israel, Pakistani authorities are swiftly facilitating the safe repatriation of citizens returning from the country. The process is particularly focused on ensuring the safety of students, pilgrims, tourists, and traders stranded amidst the worsening conflict.

The first group to return via the Gabd-Ramdan border near Gwadar comprises 51 individuals, including five Pakistani students who had been stuck in Iran for days. Deputy Commissioner Naqeebullah Kakar of Gwadar confirmed that immigration facilities have operated around the clock to ensure a smooth process for these arrivals.

Food and accommodation are being provided immediately upon their return, with arrangements made for onward travel to their respective provinces. All arriving citizens are receiving comprehensive support from Pakistani authorities to facilitate their safe reintegration into Pakistan.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Chagai reported that 19 students had crossed the Taftan border overnight from Zahedan in Iran, all affiliated with Zahedan Medical University. The group comprises twelve students from Punjab and seven from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. After passing through medical and administrative checks at the border, they are being arranged for transport back home.

Director of Federal Investigation Agency Balochistan, Muhammad Behram Khan, stated that immigration facilities remain operational around the clock to ensure uninterrupted returns of Pakistanis. He emphasized the ongoing importance of these measures in safeguarding the safety of stranded nationals.

Pakistani authorities have urged citizens still in Iran, especially students and pilgrims, to return immediately via available routes. The government has taken all possible measures to facilitate the safe return of its nationals amid this escalating crisis.

These developments follow joint strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, resulting in 201 fatalities and over 700 injuries so far. These attacks came just days after Iranian state media reported the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, who was reportedly targeted while working in his leadership compound.

Since then, Iran has launched multiple retaliatory strikes against US bases across surrounding Gulf States, including those in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, and Iraq. This increased military activity underscores the precarious regional stability exacerbated by these recent events.

The repatriation process marks a significant effort by Pakistani authorities to address the humanitarian needs of its citizens caught up in this rapidly evolving crisis. As more returnees are expected from both borders, ongoing air operations to the Middle East continue to be severely disrupted, with over 500 domestic and international flights canceled within the past three days.

These complex diplomatic and security challenges highlight the interconnectedness of regional stability amidst rising tensions between nations, underscoring the importance of swift and comprehensive responses by authorities.
