Sir Patrick Stewart prepares to share the timeless verse of William Shakespeare with a global audience
Patrick Stewart’s upcoming release through Simon & Schuster Audio marks his first venture into audio recordings, set for release this spring. This project began during the height of the pandemic when Stewart decided to record one sonnet each day as encouragement for himself and his wife.
During those uncertain times, Stewart revealed he would share a new sonnet daily online. The weekly commitment soon transformed into a meaningful personal endeavor. “The warmth of the response I received made it clear how profoundly Shakespeare’s words could touch us during challenging periods,” he said.
Stewart reflects on his experience with 154 sonnets: “Recording these poems struck me as a testament to Shakespeare’s ability to encapsulate every emotion and experience.” The poet hopes that listeners, whether encountering the works for the first time or revisiting old favorites, will find resonance in them.
“I hope these recordings help people recognize their own lives within his verses,” Stewart added. “No matter what one’s life stage, there is a Shakespearean sonnet that speaks to each person’s unique journey.”
The launch of this project promises to bring the rich tapestry of Shakespeare’s language and insight directly into listeners’ homes, serving as a testament to how literature can provide solace and understanding during times of uncertainty.
