Peer Muhammad Shah Reinstated as DIG Traffic Karachi

In Karachi, Pakistan, longtime Traffic Commissioner Peer Mohammad Shah has been restored to his position after being removed due to poor traffic management during the devastating Gul Plaza fire that claimed 79 lives and destroyed more than 1,000 businesses.

The official announcement reinstated Shah, who had previously been replaced by Mazhar Nawaz Shaikh. Sources indicate that Shah’s removal stemmed from his inability to oversee traffic effectively following this catastrophic event.

Gul Plaza, a significant commercial district, caught fire severely, causing immense destruction and loss of life. In light of the tragic incident, authorities decided to remove Shah from his role. However, recent developments have led to his restoration, suggesting that his reinstatement might be seen as a form of accountability for his failures or possibly an attempt to shore up traffic control in Karachi once again.

The move reflects ongoing efforts within the police department to address the shortcomings highlighted by this significant public safety lapse. As Khan had recently been appointed following Shah’s removal, it underscores concerns about the stability and competence of the Traffic Commissioner’s office under new leadership.
