Petrol Pumps in Karachi Face Allegations of Short Fueling and Fraud

In port city Karachi, a major admission has been made by Pakistan State Oil (PSO) regarding the issue of short measurements and alleged fraud at petrol pumps. According to PSO’s spokesperson, surprise inspections were carried out at 231 petrol pumps during December and January, revealing that 12 of these outlets were involved in dispensing less fuel than advertised.

In response to public complaints, the Sindh government conducted raids number of raids, sealing three petrol pumps that were found giving short amounts of fuel. These pumps were located on Shahrah-e-Faisal, Shaheen Complex, and Mehran Town. Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Sindh, Usman Hingoro, stated that the government’s campaign against short measurements will continue.

PSO’s spokesperson further added that the company operates 160 outlets in Karachi, with 9 of these under direct PSO management. Additionally, PSO has two mobile testing units in the city, which regularly monitor and inspect outlets for compliance.

Further actions are expected from both PSO and the Sindh government to address public concerns and prevent fraudulent practices at petrol pumps.
