The Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF) has vowed to raise its voice forcefully for the release of nearly 100 Pakistani fishermen currently imprisoned in India, calling for urgent humanitarian and diplomatic action.

PFF Chairman Mehran Ali Shah is expected to announce a comprehensive action plan at a press conference soon, outlining the steps the organization will take to secure the release of the fishermen. Most of the detainees’ hail from coastal areas including Thatta, Sujawal, Jati, Keti Bunder, and Karachi. “These fishermen are innocent and have been caught up in border tensions while simply trying to earn a living,” Shah said, emphasizing the human cost of maritime boundary disputes.

The forum plans to meet with the families of the imprisoned men and launch a movement demanding their immediate return. It has also called on the Government of Pakistan to take swift diplomatic steps and apply pressure on Indian authorities for their safe release. “Fishermen are not combatants. They are workers who fall victim to geopolitical hostilities beyond their control,” said Kamal Shah, Media Coordinator of the PFF.
