The Pakistan Institute of Petroleum (PIP) is ramping up efforts to boost the skills of professionals in the country’s oil and gas sector through its Executive Learning Centre (ELC), which has delivered over 25,000 training man-hours since its inception in 2012.

According to officials, the centre runs both technical and non-technical programmes tailored for upstream, midstream, and downstream professionals. These are conducted via physical sessions and online platforms to support accessibility for participants working in diverse environments across Pakistan.

The training courses are developed in collaboration with internationally recognised institutions and specialists, ensuring a high standard of instruction. ELC partners include the American Petroleum Institute (API), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH), the International Association of Drilling Contractors (IADC), and the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET, USA).

Graduates receive globally recognised certifications, enhancing their credentials in the energy industry. The training model has been credited with saving time and costs for organisations while offering substantial professional value.

The ELC is also focused on expanding its offerings to match evolving industry needs, with future plans to design programmes for sectors beyond oil and gas.

Founded in 1963, PIP represents the full spectrum of Pakistan’s oil and gas industry. It currently includes 23 corporate members and 450 individual professionals. PIP continues to promote sector development through policy support, research, publications, seminars, workshops, and both national and international conferences.

Officials say the ELC customises training according to its member organisations’ operational and strategic requirements and aims to broaden its scope to support other segments of the economy as well.
