PM Announces Reduced Electricity Tariff: Here’s What You’ll Pay Now

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a reduction in electricity tariffs, lowering the national average rate from Rs45.05 to Rs37.64 per unit. The decision, approved by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), cuts power costs for households, businesses, and industries, easing financial pressure on consumers.

The reduction varies across different categories, ranging from Rs6.14 to Rs8.58 per unit.

Revised Electricity Tariff Rates:

1. Lifeline Consumers

  • Up to 50 Units: Rs4.78 per unit (unchanged)

  • 51 to 100 Units: Rs9.37 per unit (unchanged)

2. Protected Consumers

  • 1 to 100 Units: Reduced by Rs6.14, now Rs8.52 per unit (previously Rs14.67)

  • 101 to 200 Units: Reduced by Rs6.14, now Rs11.51 per unit (previously Rs17.65)

3. Non-Protected Consumers

  • Up to 300 Units: Reduced by Rs7.24, now Rs34.03 per unit (previously Rs41.26)

  • Above 300 Units: Reduced by Rs7.24, now Rs48.46 per unit (previously Rs55.70)

4. Domestic Consumers

  • Reduced by Rs6.71, now Rs31.63 per unit (previously Rs38.34)

5. Commercial Consumers

  • Reduced by Rs8.58, now Rs62.47 per unit (previously Rs71.06)

6. General Services Category

  • Reduced by Rs7.18, now Rs49.48 per unit (previously Rs56.66)

7. Industrial Consumers

  • Reduced by Rs7.69, now Rs40.51 per unit (previously Rs48.19)

8. Bulk Consumers

  • Reduced by Rs7.18, now Rs47.87 per unit (previously Rs55.05)

9. Agricultural Consumers

  • Reduced by Rs7.18, now Rs34.58 per unit (previously Rs41.76)

Consumers in Azad Kashmir and other regions will also benefit from a Rs6.99 reduction, setting the new rate at Rs32.69 per unit (previously Rs39.68).

This nationwide tariff cut offers much-needed relief to households and businesses struggling with rising costs. The revised rates aim to make electricity more affordable while supporting economic stability.
