Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif underscored the urgent need for de-escalation and dialogue to preserve peace amidst heightened tensions following recent developments in the Middle East. On Monday evening, he engaged in conversations with both Syrian President Al-Sharaa and Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman regarding the dangerous regional escalation.

The latest round of military confrontations began on Saturday when US and Israeli forces launched a joint strike against Iran, which reportedly resulted in the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, Iran targeted multiple American and Israeli installations across the Middle East, including bases in Kuwait, the UAE, Bahrain, and Qatar.

In a statement shared on social media, the prime minister expressed his concern about escalating tensions following these developments. He emphasized the necessity for restraint, de-escalation, and dialogue to safeguard peace and stability.

“Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace with our regional partners,” Shehbaz Sharif stated during his conversation with President Al-Sharaa of Syria. “We need to ensure that diplomatic efforts continue and lead us towards a resolution of this crisis.”

Simultaneously, Prime Minister Shehbaz spoke with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq of Oman regarding the current instability in the Middle East. Both leaders agreed that continued communication was essential as tensions mounted following Israel’s attack on Iran.

“The ongoing situation calls for diplomatic engagement to de-escalate and return to peaceful negotiations,” commented a statement from the PM Office. “Pakistan appreciates Oman’s role as a mediator, and we share their view that it is vital to maintain peace in the region.”

In another conversation with Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheik Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Sabah on Monday evening, Prime Minister Shehbaz reiterated his condolences for those affected by the attacks on the country during this crisis. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s full support and solidarity with Kuwait amid these challenging times.

“We must remain committed to de-escalation and diplomatic efforts as tensions rise,” Shehbaz said. “The current situation demands a balanced approach, focusing on peace and stability in the region.”

While acknowledging the escalation caused by Israel’s attacks on Iran, the prime minister highlighted how such actions could lead to further instability and conflict.
