PM Shehbaz contacts Malaysia, Indonesia over Middle East tensions

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaged in urgent calls with Malaysia’s Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesia’s Prabowo Subianto, discussing escalating Middle East tensions arising from Israeli attacks on Iran. The Pakistani leader conveyed his deep concern to both counterparts during his teleconferences.

Sharif, expressing strong condemnation for Israel’s actions against Iran, highlighted the need for restraint and diplomacy amid heightened conflict in the region. He stressed adherence to principles such as sovereignty and territorial integrity outlined in the UN Charter and international law.

During his conversation with Anwar Ibrahim, Sharif underscored the imperative of all parties demonstrating restraint and engaging constructively through dialogue and negotiation. They agreed that restoring peace was critical for a resolution, emphasizing their commitment to collaborating on this front.

The Prime Minister then briefed Anwar Ibrahim about developments in Afghanistan, including Pakistan’s efforts to counter terrorism both domestically and regionally. Both leaders pledged continued coordination towards a peaceful outcome.

Later, Sharif spoke with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, sharing his concerns over the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. He reiterated his condemnation of Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent attacks in Gulf states. They agreed to coordinate their positions and work together toward resolving disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.

Both leaders expressed commitment to maintaining close cooperation in the days ahead, as Sharif detailed Pakistan’s diplomatic initiatives aimed at bolstering stability across the region, especially in Afghanistan.

Both leaders stressed their intention to remain closely aligned through ongoing discussions in the following days.
