Amid an intense heatwave, Karachi’s water supply system has been severely disrupted due to repeated power outages at key pumping stations, according to a statement issued by the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC).

A Spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) reported that breakdowns caused by K-Electric at several stations, including Dhabeji Pumping Station have significantly hampered water delivery across the city.

Despite efforts to maintain supply, the corporation faced major disruptions on consecutive nights May 27 and 28 when power outages at Dhabeji Pumping Station halted operations for hours, cutting off a total of 90 million gallons of water.

During these breakdowns, the K-III and Fourth Phase Pumping Stations remained offline, leading to widespread water shortages in several areas, Water levels also dropped noticeably at the North East Karachi (NEK) Pumping Station, and supply from Sakhi Hassan Pumping Station and Sakhi Hassan Hydrant was temporarily suspended.

While normal operations have since resumed, the KW&SC urged residents to use water sparingly and called on K-Electric to ensure uninterrupted power to prevent future disruptions.
