Prominent Businessman Zulfiqar Ahmed Abducted in Karachi

Zulfiqar Ahmed, a well-known businessman and the owner of Paracha Textiles, Cola Next, and MD Meezan, Oil has reportedly gone missing in Karachi. According to family sources, Ahmed was last seen being forcibly taken by masked armed men on Mauripur Road in Keamari.

The incident occurred when Ahmed and his partner, Qaiser, were intercepted at gunpoint and forced into a double-cabin vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported that Qaiser was released shortly after the abduction, but Ahmed remains in captivity.

The family of the businessman is currently facing challenges in filing a First Information Report (FIR) at the local police station. Despite attempting to file the FIR the day after the abduction, the police have yet to register the case.

In response to the incident, the Sindh High Court issued notices to federal and provincial law officers, Sindh’s inspector general of police, and others on a petition for the recovery of Zulfiqar Ahmed. The petitioner, Anber Zulfiqar, Ahmed’s spouse, submitted that her husband was taken to an undisclosed location by unidentified armed persons, while Qaiser was released and left on the road.

The petitioner stated that the family had approached the police and other law enforcement agencies to ascertain Ahmed’s whereabouts, but none were aware of his arrest or detention. The family’s counsel reported that attempts to register an FIR at the Kalri police station were unsuccessful. Concerns about Ahmed’s safety have grown as he has not been shown as arrested nor produced before any court of law.

The court was requested to direct the police and other law enforcement agencies to produce Ahmed before the court and disclose any pending cases against him. Additionally, an injunction was sought against the initiation of any criminal proceedings following the abduction and for the registration of a case against those involved in his unlawful detention.

A high court division bench, headed by Justice Kausar Sultana Hussain, held a preliminary hearing and issued notices to relevant authorities. They have been asked to provide comments by July 30. The SHO of the Kalri police station was also directed to appear before the court on the next date of the hearing.
