Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) senior leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced progress in negotiations with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman over the 26th Constitutional Amendment, with a consensus reached on a draft that has been approved by the Special Committee.
In a media briefing, Gohar stated, “We had an extensive discussion with Maulana Fazlur Rehman today. Another draft was shared with us, and during our meeting, we learned that the Special Committee had approved the same draft.”
He highlighted that ongoing talks are nearing completion, expressing optimism about a resolution. “We received the fourth draft today, and discussions are moving forward. We expect to reach a conclusion soon,” Gohar said.
However, Gohar clarified that PTI will not make any final decision without consulting their party’s founder, Imran Khan, who has not met with the leadership for over two weeks. “No final decision will be made until we consult with him. We plan to request a meeting with him tomorrow,” he explained.
While PTI leaders had met with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Gohar noted that the proposed amendment was not discussed during that meeting.
According to sources, the fourth draft of the amendment, handed over by Maulana Fazlur Rehman to the PTI, is now the key focus of discussions within the party. PTI has appointed a four-member legal team, led by Barrister Gohar and including legal experts Hamid Khan, Salman Akram Raja, and Senator Ali Zafar, to review the draft before any further action.
Despite these advancements, PTI has made it clear they will not support the amendment until Imran Khan is consulted.
