Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a Rs50,000 fine for dumping animal waste and offal in streets and residential areas during Eid-ul-Azha. The decision was made at a meeting chaired by her in Lahore on Saturday.

Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to launch public awareness campaigns discouraging improper disposal of sacrificial waste. Special cleaning and monitoring arrangements were also ordered for drains, canals, and other public places across Punjab.

Vigilance squads have been formed to monitor and prevent dumping at prohibited locations. Authorities are also tasked with ensuring cleanliness in railway colonies, private housing societies, and cantonment areas during Eid-ul-Azha.

Special cleanliness arrangements will be made in 2,687 major commercial markets across the province. Biodegradable shopping bags will be provided for offal disposal, and rose water will be sprayed at prayer gatherings and mosques.

Over 176,000 sanitation workers and 8,000 temporary staff members are expected to participate in the province-wide Eid cleanliness operation. The meeting also established 3,800 primary collection centres and 3,100 dumping sites for animal waste. Under the “Suthra Punjab” operation, 4,500 special camps have been set up with various vehicles for support.
