Punjab Proclaims AI Mandatory in Schools as Education Reforms Take Center Stage

WEB DESK: Punjab has become the first province in Pakistan to mandate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in schools as part of a comprehensive initiative aimed at modernizing education and governance. The move, announced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during the launch of an official workshop titled “Empowering Punjab with AI,” included the establishment of the Google Tech Valley Digital Transformation Advisory Board to guide AI integration across various sectors.

During the workshop attended by provincial ministers and cabinet members, participants were briefed on effective use of AI tools, such as those provided by Google for Education. This initiative also involves over 3,000 teachers receiving master-level training through the Google platform, more than 300,000 students being assigned AI IDs, and 200,000 students and 2,000 teachers trained by the Punjab Education Foundation. Scholarships for 1,000 students from ten organizations have been announced to support digital journalism.

Furthermore, the initiative includes a scholarship program for 1,000 students from ten organizations aimed at promoting digital literacy and innovation in education. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz highlighted the potential of AI in transforming policy-making and administrative functions, emphasizing its role in facilitating educational reforms. The Punjab government has been commended by Google representatives visiting the region for their efforts in education and digital innovation.

Through this initiative, Punjab is positioning itself as a leader in AI-driven education within Pakistan, combining advanced technological solutions with substantial training programs to equip the next generation for a digitally-oriented future.
