Rain and thunderstorm forecast for southern Pakistan

In the southern regions of Pakistan, forecasters from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) have predicted a period of rain and thunderstorms beginning on February 16th. The Met Office anticipates that a shallow westerly wave will make its way to western parts of the country on this date.

This weather system is expected to bring light to moderate rain, wind, and thunderstorms to Balochistan from February 16th evening through February 17th. Rain, wind, or thunderstorms are predicted in numerous cities including Quetta, Ziarat, Chaman, Pishin, Qilla Abdullah, Qilla Saifullah, Chaghi, Nokkundi, Dalbandin, Noushki, Harnai, Zhob, Kalat, Mustung, Bar Khan, Sibbi, Loralai, Khuzdar, Kech, Turbat, Panjgur, Gawadar, Awaran, Kharan, Pasni, Ormara and Lasbella. Occasional gaps are expected during this period.

In the neighboring province of Sindh, rain, wind, or thunderstorms are forecast for cities such as Dadu, Hyderabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, and Khairpur from February 17th onwards. Expect gusty and dust-raising winds during this period.

Additionally, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is set to experience light rain with gusty and dusty conditions in the Waziristan, Bannu, D.I. Khan, Kurram areas on the night of February 16th and 17th. Isolated regions within Punjab such as D.G. Khan, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur, and adjoining areas can expect light rain accompanied by gusty and dusty winds on February 17th.

Northwestern Balochistan will also experience a hailstorm around the same period. These forecasts highlight the need for residents of these regions to prepare accordingly for what promises to be an active weather pattern in early February.
