A “Baggy Green” cap worn by Don Bradman during his series against India in 1947-48 was sold for Australian $460,000 at a Gold Coast auction on Monday. This sale marked the highest price ever fetched for a cap belonging to one of Australia’s greatest cricketers.
The cap, adorned with the names “DG Bradman” and “SW Sohoni,” had been gifted by Don Bradman to Indian cricketer Sriranga Wasudev Sohoni. The family of Sriranga Sohoni kept the hat for over seven decades, with only immediate family members allowed to view it at 16 years old for a five-minute period.
The cap was sold anonymously and will now be displayed in an Australian museum. Another cap worn by Bradman fetched $311,000 during a prior auction in 2024, which had been sun-faded and insect-damaged.
Known as the greatest batsman in cricket history, Don Bradman played 52 Test matches with an astonishing batting average of nearly 99.94, more than 38 runs higher than any other player.
