“Ready to reveal manipulators’ names in court”, Commissioner Chatha affirms his stance

Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha of Rawalpindi has boldly affirmed his stance, declaring his readiness to reveal names in court regarding his remarks.

His unwavering commitment comes amidst speculation about the potential impact of his admission of wrongdoing on the political landscape.

In his initial statement, Commissioner Chatha emphasized his mental fortitude, asserting that he remained impervious to external pressures. “My conscience guided me, and I am prepared to confront any accusations of malpractice, be it in court or before a commission,” he asserted.

Across the nation, various political parties are vocally denouncing perceived electoral irregularities, prompting calls for urgent intervention from influential quarters to address the crisis.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission convened a special session to address allegations of electoral malpractice. Commissioner Shahzad Sultan Raja from Sindh and Punjab Election

Commission Member Hasan Mehmood Khan participated remotely in the deliberations. Following discussions on Commissioner Chatha’s allegations, the Election Commission opted to establish a high-level committee to conduct a thorough investigation.

Comprising senior officials of the Election Commission, including the Secretary, Special Secretary, and Additional Law Secretary, the committee is tasked with conducting an impartial inquiry, refraining from public pronouncements, and submitting its findings within three days.

Upon receipt of the committee’s report, the Election Commission will determine the next course of action, which may include legal recourse against Commissioner Chatha.
