Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on Monday. The Russian side emphasized maintaining the ceasefire in the region, as initially agreed upon by Pakistani mediators.
The foreign ministry stated that diplomatic efforts must continue to prevent the situation from escalating and avoid a return to armed conflict. Moscow criticized Washington’s “unlawful naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz” and seizure of an Iranian container ship.
Iran also pledged to ensure unhindered passage for any Russian vessels and cargo through the Strait, according to the ministry.
