Russia has been quietly providing crucial intelligence to Iran during ongoing military operations against U.S. forces and interests in the region. This move represents a significant shift, as Russia has hitherto refrained from offering any form of support or assistance to the Islamic Republic.
The latest revelation comes after three independent sources confirmed this fact, including a senior U.S. official with direct knowledge who spoke to CBS News. The Washington Post reported these findings earlier in the day, sparking further intrigue and speculation among policymakers and analysts alike.
Earlier Friday, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov addressed reporters at a briefing. He stated that Russia was engaged in “dialogue” with representatives of Iran’s leadership. This declaration came amid reports from Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who claimed that Russia and China were providing political support to Iran “and in other ways.”
Peskov declined to provide any additional details or comment on the intelligence assistance being offered by his government.
The United States has responded publicly to these developments through its official channels. White House principal deputy press secretary Anna Kelly declared that the Iranian regime was under “absolute crushing,” emphasizing the effectiveness of Operation Epic Fury launched by President Trump’s administration.
“Every day, their ballistic missile retaliation is diminishing,” Kelly said. “Their navy is being eliminated, and their production capacity is devastated.” She further highlighted the devastating impact on proxies who are struggling to mount any meaningful resistance.
In a separate statement released by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt during an appearance on Fox News, she underscored the robust nature of U.S. military operations in Iran, stating that “President Trump and the United States military have thoroughly decimated the rogue Iranian terrorist regime.”
Leavitt’s comments were further cemented when she said, “Whether or not Russia is providing intelligence, it doesn’t affect our military operations, which are proceeding as planned.” She also noted, “We’re completely destroying them.”
The military campaign continues to inflict heavy casualties. Six U.S. troops have already fallen in the recent offensive that the administration dubs Operation Epic Fury. These fatalities occurred when an Iranian strike targeted a tactical operations center where American soldiers were working at a base near Kuwait.
President Trump is expected to attend a dignified ceremony for returning these service members back to the United States as part of efforts to honor their sacrifice.
