Pakistani Fintech Company Sadapay Reports App Unavailability Amidst US-Israel War on Iran

Sadapay, a Pakistani fintech company, announced its application was unavailable for users due to disruptions in Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Bahrain. The conflict began with the US and Israel launching attacks on Iran, escalating tensions across the Middle East.

In a social media statement, Sadapay revealed that their infrastructure runs on AWS in Bahrain, which has been disrupted since drone strikes on March 1. This caused a full app outage for users overnight as conditions worsened.

AWS is Amazon’s cloud computing unit and a critical component for many websites and government operations. The company also serves as its main profit driver.

Sadapay assured users that their funds remained safe, with debit cards, ATMs, and point-of-sale payments still functioning. Users had previously reported incorrect deductions and negative balances in their accounts.

Amazon confirmed on Monday that its AWS region in Bahrain was disrupted due to drone activity, marking the second time in a month that its operations have been affected by the Iran war. Amazon did not immediately confirm if its facility was directly hit by a drone attack or if the disruption was due to nearby strikes. The company is helping customers migrate to alternate AWS regions while it recovers.
