A three-member Supreme Court bench has summoned Senator Faisal Vawda and MQM-P MNA Mustafa Kamal. The bench took notice after Vawda questioned Islamabad High Court judges’ claims of intelligence agency interference during a press conference.
Subsequently, MNA Kamal echoed concerns about alleged judiciary shortcomings and advocated for establishing ethical standards for judges.
During the hearing, Chief Justice Isa emphasized that the judiciary, being a public institution, is not his personal entity. He maintained composure despite severe criticism and underscored the importance of avoiding character assassination of the courts.
CJP Isa emphasized the judiciary’s stance against criticism towards the institution, referencing the press conferences held by Vawda and Kamal. He questioned the defamatory nature of the press conference, with the additional attorney general noting that the one he heard was “muted.”
The top court then issued notices to both leaders and asked them to appear before the bench at the next hearing.
The apex took suo moto notice of a press conference held by Senator Faisal Vawda who demanded evidence of interference in the judiciary.
