Shabana Azeez, known for playing medical student Victoria Javadi in The Pitt season 2, recently opened up about the character’s surprising secret identity as a popular medical influencer. In an interview with PEOPLE Magazine, Azeez expressed her excitement over the revelation, stating that it adds a new layer to the storyline.
“Playing a young woman who is in a different generation than everybody else was really interesting,” she said. “Young women have such purchasing power and are such an important market for our society. They build culture in a way that other demographics don’t usually do; we need to take them more seriously.”
Azeez noted her goal when portraying Javadi: to depict her as girly-pop but also smart. She emphasized, “She’s exactly like all the other girls and she’s really smart. Those things aren’t necessarily in opposition with each other.”
The actress found it exciting that there was potential to explore this social media storyline without dismissing the TikTok aspect of Javadi’s personality as unintelligent. Azeez explained, “It’s a way to explore medicine… It’s very important that we don’t dismiss the TikTok element of her personality as an unintellectual thing.”
While some viewers might view Javadi simply as another TikTok girl, Azeez stated she did not find this perspective troubling. “That’s an old social script I think we can do away with,” she concluded.
